Ukrainian frigate to counter piracy near the Horn of Africa

Though efforts are being taken to counter piracy internationally and though the successful piracy attacks appear reduced in number in the recent present, piracy continues to be a major threat to the shipping industry. Somalia pirates are said to hold even now some vessels and hostages claiming heavy ransom; for the pirates, it is profession to live by but for the industry, it is a threat to be eliminated. All marine countries do give serious though to fight piracy; there is an international anti-piracy campaign ever on the move.

Now, the Ukrainian Navy Press Center referring to the Navy Commander Yury llyin said: “The commander stressed that Ukrainian Navy would resume its presence in certain zones of the Black and the Mediterranean seas. In particular, it is planned that frigate Getman Sagaidachny with a helicopter and a special task unit aboard will be deployed near the Horn of Africa as a part of the International anti-piracy campaign”.
