A challenging but satisfying career

Mr. A. K. Gupta, Director (Technical and Offshore), Shipping Corporation of India, has said that sea faring offers a challenging career opportunity which is extremely safisfying.

As Chief Guest during the passing out function of the 27th batch of Marine Engineer trainees of Cochin Shipyard Limited, he witnessed an impressive parade of 84 cadets. In his address to the cadets, he exhorted them to make discipline, sincerity and hard work the cornerstone of their career. He reposed faith in the cadets and urged them to do the country proud.

Mr Gupta also gave away the prizes to the cadets who excelled in various disciplines.

The Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI) of Cochin Shipyard has been imparting training to graduate Mechanical Engineers since 1993. The cadets passing out from METI will be qualified for induction as Marine Engineers in merchant ships. The Marine Engineering training imparted at METI, CSL, has a special focus on imparting onboard training to the cadets to familiarize them with the ship environment and onboard equipments.

CSL has received the certificate for implementing ISO-14001 – Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System, with the existing ISO-9001 – Management System Standard from M/s DNV (Det Norske Veritas) of Quality Assurance for Marine Engineering Training.
