The owners of MT Pratibha Cauvery, the ill-fated cyclone- affected vessel, have deposited INR 30 lakh with Madras High Court registry towards interim compensation to the families of the six crew members who lost their lives in the disaster. The petitioners seeking compensation are the legal heirs of the dead crew members and, as per the High Court’s earlier order, it was open to them to claim the compensation from the Registrar-General after producing the due legal heirship certificate. The Central Government would file a report by December 11.
Mr. Justice Paul Vasanthakumar said that the eight surviving crew members would file the cases through Counsel Mr. S. Vasudevan and they will be posted along with the petitions filed by the families of the deceased next Tuesday.
The interim compensation of INR 30 lakh was deposited in the name of the Registrar-General of the High Court through demand drafts dated December 3.
A good deed is never lost.
