
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) observed the Vigilance Awareness Week from October 29, 2012 to November 3, 2012. The function was conducted as per guidelines given by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). It is a top government body addressing the issues of corruption. It is also only an advisory body. The Chairman and Managing Director of SCI Mr.S.Hazara inaugurated the Week with the Vigilance Pledge which ends with “We shall do our duty conscientiously and act without fear or favour”. The Chief Vigilance Officer, Mr.M.B.Sagar read out messages received from the honourable dignitaries President, Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition and the Central Vigilance Commission. In connection with the Awareness Week, different kinds of competitions such as Essay Writing, Oration, Slogan, Cartoon and Poster competitions were held to promote awareness among the people. On this occasion, the Chairman and MD released the 5th edition of “SCI Voyager”. While a lecture on ‘Integrity Pact’ by Mr.M.B.Sagar, CVO has been scheduled on 30th October, 11 am, Mr.Ramesh Chandra, Chief Technical Examiner from the Central Vigilance Commission has been invited to talk on “Transparency in Public Procurement” on November 1. In the present context of corruption explosion, so to say, this Vigilance Awareness programme gains immense significance.
