Maersk to commence India-Mediterranean Container Service

Maersk proposes to commence a container service called ME4 from October; this service will link India, Mediterranean and the Middle East. The ME4 has the port rotation moving through Jebel Ali, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), Jeddah, Malta, Algeciras, Tangiers, Genoa, and Jeddah and back to Jebel Ali. The new service will have vessels with the carrying capacity of 4,500 Twenty Foot Equivalent (TEU) Unit.  It will connect at Algeciras with its Rumba service. While announcing the Rumba service, the company said: “This new service from Nhava Sheva , India, will not only offer you a direct connection to the booming Brazilian economy , but will also complete our bouquet of services from North and West India to Europe destinations in addition to the ME1 and ME3 services”. In November, this is to be merged with “Spain loop 2 service” of the Mediterranean Shipping Company. In keeping with the tradition of Maersk, ME4, a dedicated West Med service, will have a reduced transit time with high reliability.
