Apart from the primary advantage of reducing the traffic congestion on the roads, it will definitely develop the sea transport facilities, reducing environmental pollution in a very big way. It is estimated that the project would reduced the road traffic by at least 20%. It must, indeed, prove a great advantage to the road-users. Beypore Port, 10 km south of Kozhikode, is situated midway between two major ports, Kochi and Mangalore. An estuarine port, it meets the needs of coastal sailing vessels and vessels moving between mainland and Lakshadweep islands.
