The proposal for an international airport in Pune at Rajgurunagar near Chakan has got stuck up due to delay in land acquisition. The District Collector is the sole authority with powers to acquire land for the state projects. In fact, the Collector Mr. Vikash Deshmuk has already identified the required land about 1,650 hectares covering the villages Koye, Dhamme, Pait , Raundharwadi and Askhed Budruk in Rajgurunagar near Chakan. The Government’s notification will follow after a formal submission of the proposal for the project by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) which is the project implementing agency to General Adminstration Department (GAD). Mr.Deshmukh said: “It is only after the proposal gets administrative, financial and technical sanctions that the government’s notification for land acquisition will come through. This will enable us to appoint a land acquisition officer and start with actual acquisition on ground”. It is understood from reliable sources that GAD is yet to receive any proposal from the MADC regarding the Pune airport. According to a senior official from GAD, “The project is unlikely to move forward unless the land acquisition issues are finalized”.
