
Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) earlier has issued an order to Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) to stop handling coal and coke at berths Nos 10 and 11 on the basis of complaints that the MPT has failed to control pollution. Following the order of GSPCB, MPT has not permitted three ships carrying coal to berth. Mr.P. Mara Pandiyan, Chairman, MPT, said: “Since the GSPCB passed the order, we have not given permission to any ship at berth no 10 and 11”. The ships are at the outer anchorage. One of them is said to have approached the court for intervention. The Chairman said: “Coal handling was at the storage yard and not at berth no 10 and 11, the order of the GSPCB is being strictly complied with”.
