Intermodal India 2012 logistics barons converge

Intermodal India 2012, a unique event for the logistics industry, took place for the first time in India from Sept. 25 to 27 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. Organized by UBM India Pvt. Ltd, it stood as one of the definitive integrated thought leadership events covering international trade, logistics, transportation and cargo handling.

The event was inaugurated by illustrious industry dignitaries like Mr. S. Hajara, CMD, Shipping Corporation of India; Mr. G. Chaukiyal, Member Operations, Airports Authority of India; Mr. N. N. Kumar, Deputy Chairman, JNPT; Mr. H. D. Gujrati, Executive Director/ TT(S), Railway Board, and Mr. Michael Duck, Executive Vice-President, UBM Asia, amidst an august gathering of other high profile industry personalities.

Intermodal India 2012 witnessed exhibitors from India and overseas presenting new products, the latest equipments and technology innovations. Decision makers from the retail chains, auto component sector, organized farming, heavy and light industries, warehousing services, financial services, research and development, freight forwarders, shipping and ports associations, infrastructure developers and PSUs visited the three-day event.

The event aimed at fulfilling the increasing need felt in the logistics industry both in India and abroad for a common platform to come together and deliberate on the prospects in the booming logistics industry in this country, said Mr. Sanjeev Khaira, Managing Director of UBM.

Apart from the exhibits, the event also held a seminar “Effective Intermodal Integration” encompassing a host of knowledge sharing sessions conducted in association with experts from different sectors in logistics industry. The seminar addressed trends, opportunities, challenges and overall outlook of this sector.

“Platforms like these are not just meant to discuss, but also create a whole new domain. Despite so many problems cutting across the world, India is growing at the rate of 6%. We need to decide the way forward through events like Intermodal India,” remarked Mr. Shankar Chatterjee, MD, India & South Asia, Bertling Logistics India, in his opening remarks as he chaired the seminar on the first day.

The following two days saw experts from various modes of logistics industry sharing their deep insight and thought-provoking solutions to the problems and challenges faced by the Indian logistics industry. Key speakers presented their viewpoints on effective intermodal integration, air cargo handling, cold chain management and other relevant topics.
