SCI receives Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel

The Cochin Shipyard delivered the third of the series four vessels to the Shipping Corporation of India, the vessel being an Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel. These vessels are actually support vessels, very essential in moving various rigs and some more offshore functions. This AHTS vessel is named SCI Ahimsa. Mr. P.Vinayakumar, Director (Technical), and Mr. K. Devadas, Senior Vice-President, (Technical and Offshore Services), signed the documents representing the Cochin Shipyard and the SCI respectively. The 65.2 x 16 metre vessel has the Rolls Royce Brattvaag type anchor and a towing winch; it also has a tested bollard pull of 120T capacity. Certified under the dual class by the rules and regulations of American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping, it is registered under Indian flag with Mumbai as home port. It is so equipped that the vessel, as is always the case with such vessels, could also be an Emergency Rescue and Recovery Vessel in the case of any oil field emergency.
