Nellore District Development Committee to submit proposals to the PM

In a review meeting held on Saturday in Nellore, the District Development Committee passed some very significant resolutions with a view to promote and develop the district. In a resolution, the committee requested the Union Government to set up a port in Dugarajupatnam and a fishing harour near Kavali in Nellore district. Speaking on the matter of the port, the Finance Minister, Mr.Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said that a port had already existed there between  16th and 19th centuries and therefore the idea of developing a port there was quite natural and reasonable. In fact, the state government would send the list of three places for the port to the Union Government; the places to be recommended are  Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district, Nakkapalli near Visakhapatnam and Dugarajupatnam in Nellore District. In another resolution, the committee asked for allotment of funds for the Nadikudi-Srikalahasthi railway line. In a yet another resolution, the members of the committee, requested the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to adopt to promote Sullurpeta municipality. The committee also recorded its profuse gratefulness to the Chief Minister for sanctioning INR 362 crore for a proposed medical college in Nellore. The resolutions will be submitted to the Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh in person when he visits Sriharikota on Septermber 9 for launching PSLV C-21 by the Chairman of the Committee along with the other members. Develoment of a district depends  not only on positive proposals for growth but also equally on checking negative practices that damage the district. Mr.Balli Durga Prasad (TD) , the Gudur Legislator and the other members expressed keen concern in taking steps to put an end to the serious irregularities in sand mining and transport.
