Participating in the three-day international seminar on the potential of the Indian logistics industry, Mr.Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister, said that his government would address all the issues in commissioning Kollam-Kottapuram waterway. This stretch is much needed and awaited stretch in National Inland Waterways. It may be pointed out here that the Inland Waterways of Authority of India (IWAI) is a national statutory body that monitors the waterways in India with its headquarters in NOIDA (UP) and it also attends to the feasibility of the new projects. The Chief Minister said that the completion of this stretch would lead to the extension of the stretch to Kovalam in the south Kerala and to Manjeswaram in the north. He added: “Developing the coastal waterways is top in the list of projects recommended by technocrat Sam Pitroda for the state”. He also referred to the immense potentials of the state in terms of the logistics by pointing out the existing three international airports with the fourth one almost ready at Kannur, three major ports and a plenty of minor ports like Vizhinjam and Azheekkal ; all are to become dynamic maritime hubs. He observed that his government would extend all support in dealing with the infrastructural problems in developing the logistics sector.
