The Shipping Minister reviews progress of the JNPT’s projects of Maritime Agenda 2020

In January, 2011, Mr.G.K.Vasan, the Union Minister for Shipping released the Maritime Agenda for the decade, 2010-2020.  It is a comprehensive perspective for the development and growth of the shipping sector with a proposed investment of INR 1, 65,000 crore. The vision of the maritime agenda is succinctly stated in a single statement: “We want to bring our ports at par with the best international ports in terms of performance and capacity”. With a view to assess the progress of the performance towards achieving the goals of the Maritime Agenda, 2020, the Minister held a review meeting at JNPT with the authorities. A review meeting is an integral tool of an administration to assess the progress of the performance in the right path of achievement. In the meeting, Mr.L.Radhakrishnan, Indian Register of Shipping (IAS) Chairman of the JNPT apprised him on the progress of the ongoing projects in terms of the Maritime Agenda 2020. The Shipping Minister also took the opportunity to tell the JNPT officials that they should try to complete the projects as set in the Maritime Agenda. The other important members present at the meeting were Mr.N.Murganandam, IAS, Joint Secretary (Ports), Mr.P.K.Sinha, IAS, Shipping Secretary, Mr.N.N.Kumar,IRS, Deputy Chairman of JNPT, and the other senior officers of JNPT.
