It may be recalled here that after five very disappointing quarters of losses, the Jet Airways has, with a sense of relief, reported profit for the first quarter ended in June. Mr. Naresh Goyal, the founder and promoter of Jet Airways, has come out with his observations on the taxation. Cryptically he has observed: “Aviation should not be treated as luxury, it is essential for the economic growth of the country.” According to him, high taxes and levies in the aviation sector hamper the growth of the sector. He also observed that the ticket prices in India, comparing them by the international standard, are one-third or half the price. Referring to the ‘sanity in the market’, he said the competitors, for the last six months, had given up undercutting the peers and selling the tickets below cost price. One can feel that business ethics always does well to business.
