AP likely to have the second major port in Ramayapatnam

The Centre has already sanctioned a second major port to the State of Andhra Pradesh. The technical committee inspected and examined the prospects of setting up a major port in three locations: Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam, Ramayapatnam in Prakasam and Duggarajupatnam in Nellore. The committee is in favour of Ramayapatnam. After analyzing the report of the committee, the Government will send the recommendation to the Shipping Ministry for the final approval. A senior official observed: “By August 31, Centre will announce the location of the new major port. No decision has been made yet.” As soon as the Centre announces the decision, the State would start working towards the second major project. The Centre has asked for 5000 acres of land for the purpose in addition to the effective road connectivity. For the State the land acquisition would not be a greater problem than the very task of rehabilitating the displaced.
