Customs Clearances soon no more a hurdle to some major airports, ports

As of now, there is no customs clearance after 5.30 p.m. It means cargo, both for export and import, will have to wait till the Customs Clearance is resumed next day. The cargoes pile up at the ports. Moreover, it puts a check, though unavoidable, on a speedy business transaction wherein time matters. Now, the Prime Minister’s Office comes to the rescue of the operators bringing a sigh of relief through a directive which makes the Customs Clearance available at some airports and ports as well round the clock, almost like a pilot scheme. At present, the airports at Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai and the ports at Kandla, Kolkata, Chennai and JNPT in Mumbai will have this much desired and awaited facility. Apart from Customs Clearances, other complementary services also will be available such as the concerned airport or port authority, FSSAI, drug controller, private officials from banks etc.; they also work to facilitate completing the customs clearance. The category of ‘No Assessment –No Examination’ cargo will be covered under this round the clock 24×7 operations; and, for export, the facility will be there for those exports that do not claim any benefit.
