A Joint Action Committee to clear navy’s objections for a major port at Nakkapalli

Of the three locations chosen by the Union Government for building a major port, Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam district is one. Efforts towards achieving this end could not bring in any results because of the objections raised by the Navy. Talks were on.  Now, according to Mr.Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Minister for Investments and Infrastructure, a Joint Action Committee has been formed taking two representatives from each political party. The Committee will study the objections raised by the Navy to building the major port at Nakkapalli and to the proposal of 24×7 flight operations from Visakhapatnam airport with a view to find ways to clear all the objections. The Minister said: “In view of the geographical, infrastructural and industrial development of the Visakhapatnam region, Nakkapalli is the most convenient place for setting up a major port and shipyard. The JAC will discuss the matter with the CM and the Union Minister for Defence”. A good beginning is half the battle.
