An international air cargo terminal at Vizag soon

By April 2013, it is hoped that the port city Visaskhapatnam will soon find a place in the chart of the international air cargo sector. Already connected to Dubai, it will extend its connectivity, likely by October,to Singapore. Leaving aside the existing passenger traffic, such a facility will help the export of perishable goods, particularly, marine products. According to the Director of Vizag airport Mr.Srinivasa Rao, the city is developing into a base for specialized products. Business prospects appear bright and promising with the presence of many pharmaceutical industries and a diamond cutting unit. Mr. Rao also added that a single window cargo terminal to all the airlines will be useful, making things easy to all the exporters. Mr.V.V.Raju, Assistant Director of Marine Products Export Development Authority, said that the air cargo terminal would be used in the export of fish to the Middle East particularly. Mr.Y.G.K. Murthy, President, Federation of Indian Fisheries Industry, said that a complete cargo centre at the airport having connectivity to Singapore and Colombo will fetch in about Rs 100 crore business to the fishing industry just by exporting Sashimi and Lion Tuna which have a great market in Japan as well as in Europe.
