Established by Capt. V. J. Pushpa Kumar, the institute came in to existence with the sole objective of providing well-trained logistics experts to the ever-growing logistics, shipping and port industry.
Presenting the journey of the institute through the five years to the audience that included family members of the students studying in the centre, Capt. Pushpa Kumar vividly recalled how the journey began five years ago. He said: “While I was planning something similar to carry forward my career, it was my mother who gave me the courage to venture into the logistics field and motivated me time to time to remain focused on target.”
“Her advice has indeed fructified. Today, IIL, which has begun the journey with a single digit number strength of students, has in the five years trained over 2, 000 students for different courses,” he added.
Capt. Pushpa Kumar also announced that IIL has fixed a target of training about one lakh students in 25 years time. Speaking about the facilities and placements of trained students, he stated: “IIL feels proud to say that over 90 per cent of the students trained in its facility were placed and more than 200 of them were got their placements in abroad.”
Congratulating IIL and its Founder Director Capt. Kumar for the achievement in a short span of time, Dr. P. Misra, Principal Officer, MMD, Chennai, declared: “This is a wonderful beginning and I am happy that somebody is taking care of manpower for logistical needs in shipping sector.”
In his welcome address earlier, Mr. D. Ananda Sukumar, General Manager of IIL, touched upon the important milestones that the institute has crossed over the years.
Dr. Paul P Appasamy, Former Vice-Chancellor, Karunya University; Mr Ennarasu Karunesan, Director & CEO, DP World Chennai; Prof A. Kanagaraj, Chairman, Jaya Group of Institutions; Capt. A. Lawrence, President, Chennai and Ennore Steamer Agents Association; Mr. M. S. Arun, Chairman-Southern Chapter, National Association of Container Freight Stations; Dr. S. Abdul Maliq, Principal, The New College, and Bro. S. Arokiaraj, Correspondent, Patrician College of Arts and Science, were among those who offered their felicitations.
