HBT can take out its equipment from Haldia port, HC

On Thursday, the Calcutta High Court gave the verdict in favour of Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) that it can take out its equipments from Haldia port. The Kolkata Port Trust had earlier sought the court’s intervention to stop HBT from taking its equipments from Haldia port. It based its argument that it had incurred heavy damages due to the unlawful exit of HBT from a 10-year contract for its operations at two berths 2 and 8 before the contract period. HBT, a cargo handler run by ABG-LDA, decided to withdraw its operations from the Haldia port citing law and order problems. It claimed that its employees were subjected to violence and there was no safety for its employees. The Court, however, rejected the application of the Kolkata Port Trust.

The Court would appoint special officers to supervise the process of the equipments being taken out by HBT from the Haldia port. It has also directed the East Midnapore district police to assist HBT in case any law and order problem arises while HBT implements the court order.

A broken relationship, be it personal or professional, may be soldered but it can never be sound.
