The cyclone Nilam-struck ill-fated MT Pratibha Cauvery has been ordered by the Madras High Court not to move out of the Chennai Port until further orders. Out of 22 crew members who took to lifeboats from off the ship, 17 were rescued from the mid- sea where the lifeboats capsized and five sailors were reported missing. On Friday, the bodies of three unfortunate sailors were washed ashore. When the police took the ship’s master, Carl Fernandes, he could not identify the bodies since they were too bloated to be identified. The ship is owned by the Pratibha Shipping Company. Captain Avinash Mohan, Marine Manager put the blame on the Chennai agent ‘Sea-world’ saying that it “did not behave professionally during this trying time”. As such, he said, the company was passing through a financial crisis. Meanwhile, it has sought the services of a ship-salvaging company and the company would compensate the families of the dead crew.
