
Out of 30 strong Parliamentary Standing Committee, eight members were on their two-day visit to Nellore district to study the disaster preparedness at the Krishnapatnam port. On Wednesday, they had a meeting with the district authorities to discuss disaster management and coastal security. Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee presided over the meeting which was held at Hotel Harita on GT road; Mr. B. Sridhar, the Collector, Mr. B.V.Ramana Kumar, the Superintendent of Police welcomed the committee members along with the other senior officials. The committee members present for the meeting were Mr.Datta Meghe, Mrs. Santosh Chowdary, Ms. Kanimozhi, Mr. Ramen Deka, Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and Mr. J.M. Aaron Rasheed, Mr. Neeraj Sekhar and Mr. Ravneet Singh. Apart from a power point presentation by the senior officials on the disaster preparedness and security measures in the coastal mandals and institutions, the port officials gave a power point presentation on the security measures already taken and the development activities undertaken by the port management in the nearby coastal area. The Parliamentary Standing Committee members also discussed and reviewed the Krishnapatnam Port Disaster Management Plan. It was understood that some more members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee would join the visiting team on Thursday.
