Mr. Christopher Fonseca, AITUC State General Secretary, said it was shocking that after so many years of service rendered by them, MPT considered its employees expendable. He termed the proposal as “blatant and preposterous”. The MPT had on Nov. 9 approved an SVRS and special leave, as an option to its 2, 605 employees, to tide over the mining ban crisis.
“It is a shame that successive MPT managements have failed to make the port a multi-product handling destination even after 51 years of liberation,” Mr. Fonseca remarked.
