With an astute sense of business prospects, LOTS Shipping has launched its first river sea container vessel, MV Beypore Sultan, which is an indigenously built IRS class Type IV one, capable of carrying 81 Twenty-Foot-Equivalent Units(TEU). According to the Managing Director, LOTS Shipping, Mr.Philip Mathews, this river sea container vessel could carry containers from Mangalore to Kochi at a very competitive cost. He added that the vessel would carry boxes from among the ports on the western coast and the Vallarpadam container transshipment terminal. The vessel Beypore Sultan has been constructed by Master Shipyard Private Limited which is an associate company of LOTS Shipping which focuses on tapping “ the largely underutilized opportunities in Inland Water Transport” and on “unlocking value of river sea for transportation and logistics” in India. The Kochi based LOTS Shipping, in accordance with its mission, will be constructing ten coastal river sea vessels in about three years now to meet the anticipated growth in coastal shipping. The CEO of LOTS Shipping, Mr. Renjit Nelluvelil pointed out that the river sea vessels would be of help to business community by effecting a better connectivity with the Vallarpadam terminal , thus reducing the cost and encouraging competitiveness.
The river sea vessels can operate only in the Indian waters within about 12 miles from the coast.
