Emergency towing vessels along the east and west coasts

After a meeting while talking to the presspersons in the presence of the Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust, Mr. P.Tamilvanan, the  Chairman of the National Shipping Board Mr. P.V.K.Mohan emphasized that emergency towing vessels could be positioned along the east and west coasts. The Board had already got approval for three such vessels and one is already deployed in Mumbai particularly for the monsoon. Since accidents seem to happen round the year, Mr. Mohan suggested: “Ideally, one should be located in Mumbai and the other in Chennai”. The Board is also suggesting “methods to tighten up port infrastructure, regulations and also to find methods of pre-empting such incidents from taking place”.
