As part of his familiarization programme, Director General of Shipping Gautam Chatterjee visited different places of maritime importance in the State including the Chennai Port Trust.During his visit, Mr. Chatterjee familiarised himself with its operations and also held discussions with the officers of the port and Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) on various issues.
It is learnt that the ChPT officials apprised the DGS of the need for a policy for sailors in distress and a redressal mechanism to help those stuck in stranded vessels.
Besides visiting the Indian Maritime University (IMU) campus at Uthandi for discussion on maritime courses, Mr. Chatterjee met the owners of shipping companies in South India and discussed with them the latest developments.
