Vizhinjam Port is likely to float tender for EPC soon

Vizhinjam International Seaport (VIS) will submit its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to the Centre by December and it will float bids for its INR 4000 crore project in the first quarter of 2013 itself. Mr. Suresh Babu, VIS Chief Executive said : “ We are hopeful of submitting the final EIA report to the Union Environment Ministry latest by December and hope to float a global tender for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract within the first quarter of next 2013”. The port in fact expected to have the EIA report from L&T Ramboll consortium and Asian Consulting Engineers in June-July, later, in September. Meawhile, the Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association had also expressed its intention to interact with the EIA team before the final assessment. Mr. Suresh Babu added: “In a way it is good that the association approached the EIA team for a public hearing before the final report was drafted. Otherwise, it would have been delayed further. We hope everything goes smoothly now”.
