US and Indian Navies to organize INDIAEX 2012

INDIAEX 2012 is a bilateral naval exercise undertaken by US and the Indian Navy just to demonstrate the cooperation between US submarine rescue system and the Indian submarines. The exercise, scheduled from October 19 to November 13, will take place off the coast of Mumbai, India. US Navy ‘s Undersea Rescue Command (URC) and four Indian Navy submarines will engage themselves in a simulated rescue scenario which will be demonstrated by URC’s Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System (SRDRS). The commanding officer of URC, Cmdr. Dave Lemly said: “INDIAEX 2012 is critical to building a strong and sustainable partnership between the United States and India. Conducting exercises like INDIAEX will allow India and the U.S. to continue to benefit from the military-to-military and security cooperation program”. URC, the only US military command with expertise to demonstrate deep ocean rescue, is a hybrid organization with about 120 personnel from active duty, Reserve, government civilians and contractors. The at-sea part of INDIAEX 2012 is to take place from October 30 to November 6.
