Recently, the Chinese shipping companies opened the first container route to Russia. The companies shipped more than 100 containers with consumer goods, ironware products and computer parts from East China’s Ningbo port to Russia’s Vostochny port. Ningbo port, one of the most important and busiest ports in mainland China, is actively engaged in trade in cargo shipment from as far as North and South America and Oceana. Vostochny port, an intermodal container port, is the largest port in the Russian Far East. The container ships operate on weekly basis departing from Ningbo port every Thursday. At the Vostochny port, the cargo would be unloaded and taken to East Europe by rail. The trade between China and Russia has steadily grown in the recent months. According to the information from the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the trade volume between the two countries has risen by 14.2 % from the previous year.
