The crisis at Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) prolongs

Haldia Bulk Terminal (HBT), an APG-LDA’s cargo handler has decided to move Calcutta High Court for a solution to the problem. It finds that the situation at HDC is least conducive to work with the law and order situation not being satisfactory. Meanwhile, it can be recalled here that Kolkata Port Trust has asked HBT to resume its operations at its berths 2 and 8 by October 19. The Chief Executive Officer of HBT, Mr. Gurpreet Malhi said: “As law and order situation remains grim at Haldia port, we have decided to move the high court. We have already requested KoPT and the East Midnapore district administration to restore the law and order situation at the port, but it did not improve”. Mr. Malhi also said that he had had several meetings with the port officials to impress upon them the need to improve the situation at the port but he had not got adequate response from them. He added: “The port officials have asked us to start operations before October 19, but it is not feasible for us to start operations in such a short span of time looking at the current law and order situation prevailing at the port”.
