Shreyas inducts latest cellular container ship

Shreyas Shipping & Logistics Ltd, the largest container coastal operator on the Indian coast, handling the maximum coastal domestic as well as coastal transhipment of containers, has inducted its latest cellular container vessel, OEL KUTCH, into its fleet. It is the sister vessel of OEL KOCHI, which was acquired on Aug. 1.

OEL KUTCH was delivered to the company on Sept. 21 in Singapore and made her maiden call at ICTT, Vallarpadam, on Oct. 3. She joins the company’s WCC service, replacing the earlier vessel OEL SHREYAS. OEL KUTCH and OEL KOCHI will operate on the WCC service, connecting Mundra, Kandla, Cochin and Tuticorin as part of a fixed-day weekly rotation, with an option to call at NSICT. The vessels would be able to facilitate larger capacity and a fixed-day schedule for customers.

It is said in a Press release that the name OEL KUTCH is derived from the Gulf of Kutch and dedicated to ports located in the region, like Mundra and Kandla, where the vessel will be calling and from where the maximum domestic volume originates – the company’s commitment to coastal trade. The vessel called at MICT on her maiden voyage on Oct. 6 and then at Kandla Port on Oct. 8.

The tonnage and capacity owned and operated by Shreyas Shipping has almost doubled with the induction of OEL KOCHI and OEL KUTCH, and now stands at 6 cellular container vessels of 86, 471 total GRT and container capacity of 7, 298 TEUs, making it the premier coastal container operator. The additional capacity will help meet the increasing demand in coastal container trade, which is envisioned to grow further in the days to come, according to the Press release.
