First Mayor of Hamburg and Union Shipping Minister hold talks

On Tuesday in New Delhi, Mr. Olaf Scholz, First Mayor (Chief Minister) of Hamburg, Federal Republic of Germany met Mr.G.K.Vasan, Union Shipping Minister for a discussion on mutual co-operation in the maritime sector. The honourable visitor recalled the Agreement between India and the Federal Republic of Germany on maritime transport relations. Having responded to the Mayor saying that India valued its strategic partnership and association with Germany, the Union Shipping Minister enquired about the logistics and the maritime sector in Hamburg.  About the possible areas of co-operation, India would like to have expertise from Germany in dealing with the congestion of ports and in Information Technology for container traffic as well as in maritime training. Mr.Vasan thanked Mr. Scholz for his elaborate support to India when it participated in the Hamburg Port Festival. Of course, their meeting would be followed up by the teams of experts from both the countries to identify areas for mutual co-operation and to probe further. The Union Minister took the opportunity to point out that India allows 100% FDI in the shipping sector; moreover, India is emerging as a good logistics hub and a popular cruise destination. Investments in maritime sector by the German companies would prove mutually beneficial.
