If the Chennai port and Maduravoyal link road is fully materialized, it would definitely help, according to Mr.I.G.Reddy, Chief General Manager (Technical), the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), decongest Poonamallee road. But the work on the elevated road project could not be continued since the Water Resources Department had raised technical objections to the project pointing out that the pile caps of the project affect the free flow of the water in the Cooum and the alignment of the elevated road is just on the waterways, not on the bank of the river. The NHAI has submitted a report answering the objections and justifying technically the elevated link road project to the Government of Tamil Nadu and is awaiting the final permission from the Government. Mr.I.G.Reddy said: “We have added entry and exit ramps for general use also. The project conceived ten years ago can be completed in two years if we are allowed work”.
