Ever since DP World set its footprint in Cochin eight years ago, it has been constantly proving its sense of corporate social responsibility to the people of Vallarpadam in particular and of the areas near International Container Transshipment Terminal. Apart from its commercial upgradation in shipping industry, trade and commerce in the state in general, in Vallarpadam, it has organized a medical camp, furnished a local school with environmentally suitable kitchen appliances, supplying as well as planting tree saplings and donating chairs and fans to an orphanage. Mention can be made of its support to open heart surgery procedure for 21 children in Kerala and also of the construction of eco-friendly toilets for the truck cleaners at the terminal. It has also developed the Ochanturth orphanage. In brief, its principle of the corporate social responsibility is brought out in a statement by the DP World: “The approach at DP World is focused on the four quadrant model of community, people, environment and market place. This provides the frame work to ensure responsibility is woven into the fabric of our company and its values”. Mr.K.K.Krishnadas, CEO, DP World, Cochin, said: “Improving the standard of living and creating a clean safe environment in Vallarpadam is as much our responsibility as is of the Government of Kerala”. Senior VP and MD of DP World Subcontinent Region said that Kathryn Wightman-Beaven, Head of Global Corporate Responsibility at DP World was there with them to share her experiences which would guide them in their future programmes.
