Earlier, ABG-LDA Bulk Terminals had said that it would suspend operations of their SPV Haldia Bulk Terminals from September 8, 2012. Justifying the suspension of the operations, it said in a statement: “The indefinite suspension of operations by HBT becomes inevitable due to its mounting loss in excess of INR crore till date”. ABG Haldia Bulk Terminals is a joint venture between ABG-LDA Bulk Handling Private Limited and Kolkata Port Trust. Responding to the decision of ABG-LDA to suspend operations of Haldia Bulk Terminals, Kolkata Port Trust had appealed to the Court for a stay on the suspension of operations. On Friday, Justice Sanjeep Banerjee passed an interim order directing ABG to continue operations at Haldia till September 12, 2012. Mr.Gurpreet Malhi, CEO of ABG-LDA said that the matter was treated as ex-parte in the Court and “we were not even served with a copy of the petition. In view of the aforesaid, we have decided to defer the suspension of our operations till September 12”.
