Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI) adds a Panamax bulk carrier, Vishva Vinay, to its fleet. In order to replace its Daewoo series of Handymax bulk carriers built in 1986 and 1987, SCI ordered four Panamax bulk carriers and Vishva Vinay is the second of the four ordered. As against the conventional Panamax vessels of 75,000 tonnes of Deadweight Tonnage (dwt), these vessels have a higher capacity of 80,000 Deadweight Tonnage. Vishva Vinay has a gross tonnage of 44007 tonnes with the deadweight of 80,139 tonnes. With this new vessel, the fleet strength of SCI goes to 78 with a total of 5.57million dwt. As of now, SCI has on order 21 vessels; by the end of 2012, it is scheduled to take delivery of six vessels.
