The contract for deepening and widening the JN port and Mumbai port was overdue and much awaited. At last, the contract has been finalized and it has been awarded to Royal Boskalis N.V. a Dutch dredging major. Delay irks, particularly in some significant projects; and the finalization brings immense relief to those who are concerned about it. Here, the Mumbai and Nhava-Sheva Ship Agents Association (MANSA) has very warmly expressed its appreciation over the finalization of the contract. Calling this deal a “great achievement for the maritime industry of India” it also records in a communiqué its sincere appreciation and “applauds the persevering spirit of the current JNPT management in ensuring that this major project of lasting impact in the maritime activity of this Port is finally on stream”. It also looks forward “to the commencement of the dredging without any further delays and its completion at the earliest”.
