Goa takes steps to track the movement of the iron ore

Mr. Prasanna  Acharya , the Director of Mines and Geology Department said that his Department has made it compulsory that all the ships transporting iron ore from the jetties of the states to the ports must have the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and  the Vehicle Tracking System(VTS).  This move is to check and stop the iron ore exports from the states using these ships, generally known as barges. He also added: “The association of the barge owners has decided that no vessel would be allowed to transport iron ore without the installation of these systems”. Goa, the greatest exporter of iron ore, ships much of its iron ore to China and it has 90 functional mines though it has about 300 mining leases.
