Projected affected persons of JNPT get developed land

To develop the port, the Union Shipping Ministry acquired land from the people offering compensatory land. Developing the port was very essential since JNPT is the lifeline port having 60% of India’s container cargo. But the people lost the land asked for developed land as compensation; a total bandh was observed last March at JNPT and it was supported by about 3000 workers of JNPT. On the intervention and promise of Maharashtra Chief Minister,Mr.Prithviraj Chavan that the demand for the compensatory land would be solved within three months, the bandh was called off. The CM happily said that the Union Government announced on Thursday that the Project Affected Persons of JNPT would be allotted 12.5% of the developed land. According to a statement from the office of the Chief Minister, the Centre would give 11 hectares of land to the City and Industrial Development Corporation for allotment to the Project Affected Persons. The Centre will bear the cost of infrastructure to the landowners and the State government will be responsible for the development plan.
