Kandla Port growing into a global logistics hub, Port Trust Chairman

The speech of the Chairman of Kandla Port Trust, Dr.P.D.Vaghela on the 65th Independence Day Celebrations was very informative and inspiring as well. Briefly tracking the success story of the Port, he said that the contributions made by Kandla port to the maritime sector and to the national economy were very significant. After a proper conventional expression of gratefulness to the freedom fighters, he pointed out that Kandla port has proved itself as the number one in handling cargo in three consecutive years registering a very impressive volume of 82.5 million tonnes  from 2,710 vessels in 2011-12. With legitimate pride he added that the Government had declared Kandla port as the best port for handling foodgrains and fertilizer cargo. He touched upon the famous projects such as the development of the satellite port at Tuna, port-based special economic zone and dedicated barge handling capacities. He observed that the port, crossing its 100 million tonnes mark in near future, would easily become a global logistics hub.  He extended an invitation to the ex.im trade to visit the port to have a look at the excellent services available there. Finally, in conclusion, he referred to his team’s commitment to develop the port and make it a name in the international maritime fraternity.
