Adani Port, Lanco and Punj Lloyd barred from participating in the major port projects

Adani Port , Lanco and Punj Lloyd, three largest infrastructure companies in the country, have been denied clearance by the Home Ministry to participate in the two major port projects on grounds of security.  With a National Maritime Agenda for the decade as the most important guideline, the Shipping Ministry has to develop many projects in the port sector under 12th Five Year Plan.  The terminal development projects in Mormugao and Tuticorin ports are very significant in the projected development of the port sector.  Referring to the Home Ministry’s denial of clearance, Mr.Rajeev Sinha, Director,Adani Ports, said that they were not aware of such denial of national security clearance. He added: “APSEZ was not short-listed since a coal terminal project has been awarded to the company in Mormugao and so the question of national security clearance does not arise. We would think the company should get national security clearance in normal course, which even foreign companies operating in India are allowed”.
