PM assures to help amend shipping laws: Kerala CM

While inaugurating the Kochi office of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations, the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr. Oommen Chandy referred to the assurance given by the Prime Minister of India,  Dr.Manmohan Singh,  that he would help in expediting the relaxation in the shipping laws to give a boost to the international container transshipment  terminal at Vallarpadam. The amendment pertains to the cabotage laws that will facilitate foreign feeder vessels to carry transshipment containers between Vallarpadam and the other Indian ports. He also talked about the other two new ports under plan; they are one at Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram and  another at Azhikkal in Kannur. As for the Vizhinjam port is concerned , the formalities were complete , he said, and the discussions were on the last lap.
