Cochin Port workers seek Centre’s intervention for their welfare
Mr. C. D. Nandakumar, General Secretary, Cochin Port Employees Organization (CPEO), said that the undue delay in the implementation of the development projects and some Government policy decisions have landed the port in a financial precarious state. Even before the protest week called by Water Transport Workers Federation of India at the port, the union had submitted its demands to the Centre. The WTWFI has sought the Government to give up the policies that might certainly prove detrimental to the very existence of the Major Ports. Nor does it welcome the stimulus packages offered to the private ports and non-major ports. Again, Cochin Port Staff Association (CPSA), affiliated to the national body, All-India Port and Dock Workers Federation, has also placed demands such as immediate payment linked to productivity, cancelling the suspension of the hike in dearness allowance from Jan. 1, and immediate payment of overtime arrears.
