Floating Cranes at Kandla port

Under the dynamic vision of Dr. P. D. Vaghela, Chairman of Kandla Port Trust, Kandla Port now is able to deploy floating cranes, a major step in promoting the interests of the trust. With this upgradation, Kandla Port becomes the first major port capable of handling capesize vessels carrying 100,000 tonnes at the outer anchorage of the port. With two Liebherr cranes imported by Rishi Shipping from Germany, becoming operational in September, Kandla Port will be able to handle gearless Panamax  and capesize vessels free from any restrtiction on the length of the ship (LOA) and arrival draught. The Chairman has also encouraged the coastal movements between Kandla and captive barge jetties of cement companies. The great advantage of floating cranes at Kandla Port is  not only that the port is becoming  able to handle bigger vessels reducing freight but, more significantly, it also  saves foreign exchange for the country.
