SMM India: a great event and a platform for the maritime industry

SMM India, an international subsidiary of SMM, the great leading international maritime trade fair based in Hamburg, is a great maritime event in South Asia itself, an event wherein an impressive array of country pavilions will be showcasing their latest developments; shipbuilders and suppliers from countries like Germany, Denmark, China, and Finland do participate demonstrating their most recent growth in the industry. SMM India will be held for the third time in 2013, from 4 to 6 April, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Hall V, in Mumbai. And, 14 December is the deadline for the German exhibitors. According to  Mr.Peter Bergleiter, Business Unit Director at Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH(HMC), “ Ever since SMM India took place for the first time in 2009, the German pavilion has been a singular point of attraction for visitors”. The event will prove a spectacular one with participation from high level industry representatives and it will be an exciting experience which will combine both a series of lectures and festivities. One day the Vice Admiral (Retd) P.C. Bhasin, Chairman of the Defence Council of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in India, will conduct a workshop on the Indian naval and shipbuilding Programme. The most interesting point here is two key industry events; SMM India and National Maritime Week   jointly open the National Maritime Week in the presence of very distinguished guests. President and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) remarked: “To us this cooperation is something very special. Both the events will be celebrating an anniversary”. Mr. S.Hajara, Chairman and MD, the Shipping Corporation of India, endorsed the view of Dr. Satish B. Agnihotri, Chairman, National Maritime Celebrations (Central) Committee and said: “SMM India offers a common platform for users and suppliers of marine technology and equipment in a plausible manner”.

Poised on an impressive growth in the shipbuilding India has a great promise to ship builders and it is said India is now in the fifth rank in the world-wide order book with 150 new building orders. Indian Navy and the Coast Guard too have their own orders giving a boost to the shipbuilding industry.
