SCI adds one Kamsarmax Bulk carrier to its fleet

Two days back, the Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI) took deliver of a Kamsarmax Bulk Carrier, m.v. “Vishva Jyoti” and it is first of the four such carriers ordered by SCI with Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., China. The orders were placed in September 2010 and the remaining three vessels would be delivered during 2013. The vessel, Vishva Jyoti has a gross tonnage 44,864 tonnes and is built on eco-friendly Rolls-Royce UT-Design (UT 755 CD). This vessel with diesel propulsion produces less emission. It is equipped with the other facilities like Dynamic Positioning system, reverse osmosis system, firefighting equipments, and ERRV (Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel) and partial UKOOA Class C compliance.

Three weeks back, SCI took deliver of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), m.v.SCI Yamuna. With the addition of these two vessels, the fleet strength of SCI is 82 vessels of 5.94 million dwt. These acquisitions fulfill partly the SCI’s aim of modernizing the fleet. The company as such has 17 vessels on order at present. In the offshore sector, it has a fleet of 16 vessels and it has plans to establish itself as a very significant player in the Indian offshore services sector.
