While addressing a press conference on Indian Maritime University (IMU)’s ‘Tech Samudra -2012, a three-day international conference, Mr. Suresh Chandra Misra, Director, IMU, Visakhapatnam Campus, stressed that green ships are the answer to fight and control sea and environmental pollution in future. Green ships are safer compared with the nuclear-powered ships which are expensive as well. The focus must be changes in the design and production of the marine vessels and associated systems and services exploiting the developed technology for the marine industry. He said: “Green ship concept is nothing but building a ship with lower emission levels and other environmental hazards. Future needs green ships in order to control sea and environmental pollution”. Four keynote addresses are scheduled with the same focus on green ships from four speakers across the world. The students and research scholars also will be presenting papers on various topics such as hydrodynamics, vibration and noise due to machinery, stability of floating structures and jetties, port and harbor operations and offshore activities.
