Beypore Port to upgrade the surveillance systems soon

To tighten the security at the port, Beypore Port in Kozhikode, India, will install necessary surveillance systems at the port. The Port Officer said: “Surveillance equipment worth INR 2 crore will be installed at the port as part of a latest government decision”. The installation of the surveillance systems will include the baggage screening facilities, Closed Circuit Television Cameras; a standard vehicle barrier system coupled with under-vehicle inspection would add efficiency to the surveillance. For the baggage scanning, a new building has been constructed. The task of raising the compound wall which has already begun would be completed, the Port Officer added, with the investment of INR 31 lakh; tenders are to be floated for lighting up the compound wall and the entry of the people would be organized through Metal detector doors. For most of the projects, submitted by the port, the administrative sanction has been obtained and the implementation would be likely before the end of this financial year.

Last Thursday, Vice-Admiral Mr.Satish Sony, Flag Officer Commanding – in- Chief, Southern Naval Command, visited the port to audit the existing security measures and the infrastructural facilities. The Port authorities also apprised the Vice-Admiral of the latest plans regarding the surveillance up gradation at the port.

The Port Officer Mr. Kuriakose said that the Beyport port would match any international airport when the installation of the surveillance system is completed.

‘Business before pleasure ‘is good; ‘Security before business’ is better.
