Mr. Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra has taken over as the Chairman of Paradip Port Trust. Prior to this he was Member (Traffic) of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). An officer of the 1986 Batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, Mr. Mishra has served in various zonal railways such as South Eastern Railway, Southern Railway and East Coast Railway before joining IWAI in August 2011.
Paradip Port has not had a regular Chairman since the then Chairman, Mr. G. J. Rao, left in April after seeking voluntary retirement from service. Since then Deputy Chairman S. Aananth Charan Bose had been shouldering the responsibility as the acting Chairman. However, the position of Deputy Chairman is also likely to fall vacant soon as Mr. Bose is tipped to take over as Chairman of Tuticorin Port Trust, it is learnt.
Prior to joining IRTS, Mr. Mishra worked for three years as an Officer in Canara Bank.
He is an M.B.A from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, apart from having a Degree in Law and Masters in History. He was trained by RDSO, Lucknow, in Psycho Technical Testing Techniques of Counselling. He was the topper in MA and MBA and also in the induction and foundation courses training in service.

During his 25 years of service in Indian Railways, he has worked in all the three branches of Traffic Department and has been associated with many important activities of Indian Railways. For his outstanding performance and devotion to duty, he has been awarded twice at the level of General Manager. He is also the recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhawana Award at national and state level.
He was instrumental in setting up and full-fledged functioning of operating, commercial and safety departments of Sambalpur Division, Claims Office, including its web-enabled services and operating department of newly formed East Coast Railway.
As Member Traffic of IWAI, he has formulated seven different cargo specific projects with an investment potential of Rs. 2, 100 crores by the private sector. Selected projects are being monitored by the office of PMO. He has represented India in “Smart Rivers-2011”, an international conference on river navigation, held in USA in September 2011. He is one of the founding Members of PMA, NCR Chapter.
After assuming the office of the Chairman, PPT, Mr. Mishra expressed that Paradip Port Trust must maintain the reputation of being a premier port among the major ports of the country with modern cargo handling infrastructure, ensuring quick turn round of vessels and in timely completion of projects undertaken by it.
Meanwhile, trade union leaders and trustee of PPT Sudhakar Mantry have congratulated Union Ministry of Shipping for fulfilling their long standing demands by appointing an Odia Officer as Chairman of PPT.
It is worth mentioning here that the last Odisha cadre IAS who held this post way back in early 1990s was Mr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra. He was succeeded by Mr. Ashok Patnaik of West Bengal cadre who gave way to Mr. Santosh Mohapatra of Gujarat cadre in 1998. The PPT chief post was held for a brief period by Mr. Subrat Tripathy, another IRTS Officer. The next incumbent, Mr. J. J. Rao, who incidentally was the first Indian Port Service official to become Chairman of PPT, quit in April last.
