Kolkata Port Trust started transshipment at Sandheads

On Friday, Kolkata Port Trust engaged itself in a very significant act: it started its first transshipment at Sandheads . This act will go a long way in taking efforts to promote the survival of river ports of Haldia and Kolkata and it will prove an advantage to the user industries in eastern and north eastern India and also to Bhutan and Nepal. Capt. S.N. Choubey, Manager, Marine Department of Haldia Complex, remarked bringing out the significance of the transshipment: “This is the beginning of trans-loading of 10.5 lakh tonnes cargo for NTPC, which would be berthed at Haldia and evacuated through land routes to the ultimate destinations- Farakka and Kahalgaon”. This transshipment is cost effective with a saving of USD 1.15 per tonne in logistics expense. Coal and Oil, Dubai, will carry out its transshipment of almost 70% of its 15 lakhs tonnes in Haldia in about next four months by means of KoPT’s 45-tonnes tug and pneumatic fenders. Mr. Choubey said : “ The coal load trans-loading at Sandheads is being  done from a handymax to vessel requiring draft of seven meters”.

Coal and Oil Company, incorporated in 1998 in Dubai, has the objective of “investing and trading in the Energy Industries”.
